Gardaí evacuated the school as a precaution.
It is believed the incident could have taken place during the night when a mine collapsed.
Parents were asked to collect their children as soon as possible.
The school stated: “Due to the collapse of the Gypsum Mine in the area of the community centre, the school will close immediately. Can parents please collect children as soon as possible. Please spread the word.”
The Kings Court to Carrickmacross road R179 has been closed and diversions are now in place.
