The CSO have released their report on top Irish Babies Names in 2012.
 
The most popular baby name for boys registered in 2012 was Jack. Out of 37,210 boys born in 2012, 831 were named Jack, that's 58 more than the number of boys named James which is the second most popular name for boys. Jack has held this top position since 2007
 
The most popular baby name for girls registered in 2012 was Emily. Out of the 35,015 girls born in 2012, 626 were named Emily, that's 49 more than the number of girls named Sophie, which is the second most popular name for girls. Emily has held this top spot since 2011 (prior to that it was in eight place in 2007 and fifth place in 2008)
 
The top 5 names for boys in 2012 were:
Jack
James
Daniel
Sean
Conor
 
These have been the top 5 names for baby boys since 2007, although their order has changed slightly from year to year.
 
The top 5 names for girls in 2012 were:
Emily
Sophie
Emma
Grace
Lily
 
These have been the top 5 names for baby girls since 2011, although their order has changed slightly from year to year.
 
New entires to the top 100 list for boys were:
Isaac
Danny 
Logan 
 
New entires to the top 100 list for girls were:
Evie
Amelie
Hanna
Maisie
Rose
 
From a national perspective, in most areas of the country, one of the top five boys' names took the number one spot, with only two areas favouring names from outside the top five; in Longford the top spot was shared by Adam, DAvid, Michael and Rian while in Monaghan the highest ranked name was Ryan.
 
For girls, there was a wider range of names outside the top five that were county and city favourites. These included Amelia, Aoife, Lucy, Sarah, Saoirse, Mia, Ella, Chloe and Lauren.
