Jeaneta Bente, from Romania, eventually came forward as the mother of the babies when news sites began sharing the tots’ sad story.
Since coming forward, Bente has shared the reason behind her heartbreaking actions – she is poverty-stricken and feels that she ‘cannot afford’ to raise the children herself.
A mother to three young children already, Bente made the traumatic decision just days after the babies were born.
Speaking to local media after her identity was revealed, the 32-year-old said: “I hope people can understand that I just don’t have any possibility to feed or care for them.”
“But I wish them the best and hope they have a better life than I can give them,” she added.
Authorities were initially stuck over what to do with the babies, as they required the mother’s permission to put them up for adoption; however, Bente has since agreed to the process.
The children are now being transferred to a children’s home, and they will eventually be placed with a foster family.
