While some of us tend to be a bit wary of technology, no one can deny the amazing things it has done in the field of reproductive health, for families all over the world.

This has never been truer than in the case of Tracey Thompson, who has given birth to her own much-longed-for grandchild.

Tracey’s daughter, 28-year-old Kelley McKissack, had almost given up hope of having children after suffering long-term infertility problems and three heartbreaking miscarriages.

Kelley’s mother was desperate to give her a child, and despite being seven years past menopause, a medical team was able to implant an embryo into the 54-year-old using top-of-the-range technology.

Surrogate Tracey gave birth to a girl, Kelcey, on January 6, to the delight of the entire family; she weighed in at a healthy 6lb 11oz.

Baby Kelcey has been described as a ‘miracle’ by the doctor who led the procedures, while new mum Kelley is ecstatic and grateful for her mother’s incredible gesture.

“My lovely mum gave me the best gift I could ever have in my life,” she told local media, going on to share a message of hope for other women struggling to start families of their own.

She added: “You have friends, and there are many women who are willing to do it. I just want people to know, you can have your biological child still.”

Congratulations to the family on the arrival of their little bundle of joy.
