This morning our hearts go out to an Indian couple, Shivrajo Devi and Chhota Singh, who have made headlines around the world after welcoming a set of extremely rare conjoined twins.

According to a report by the Mail Online, the couple’s twins were born fused at the waist, on Wednesday, in Bihar. Believed to be a boy and a girl, they share almost every vital organ.

The Mail quotes Devi’s paediatrician as confirming that only one genital - that of a girl - is currently visible to doctors. As they suspect by looking at the face of the other child that he is male, it makes the case all the more rare and unique, because conjoined twins are usually of the same gender.

According to reports, the twins would need to be transferred to Delhi in order to receive advanced treatment but, as the family cannot afford it, they have had to simply return home with the tots.

The babies’ devastated mother told local news: “I cannot believe my children are fused together…I am heartbroken and had hopes that doctors can save their lives but with doctors turning them away, I do not know what will happen to them now.”

While the babies are said to be in a stable condition, an expert said that their chances of survival are ‘slim’.

SHARE to gather well wishes for these little ones and their family.
