An Irish mum has issued a heart-breaking appeal this weekend, in a bid to locate a doll that belonged to her late infant daughter, which went missing during a day trip to Dublin Zoo this week.

Claire Gray got in touch with the Irish Independent to share her story, in the hope that some member of the public may have come across the treasured doll over the past number of days.

According to Independent.ie, Baby Matilda was born in July 2013 and diagnosed with Edward’s syndrome shortly after. She was presented with a doll bearing her name – now affectionately known as ‘Matilda Doll’ – shortly before passing away, at the age of three months.

Matilda Doll soon became a precious treasure for the family, in particular Claire as she came to terms with her devastating loss. They endeavoured to bring Matilda Doll everywhere with them, especially during Matilda’s little brother Archie’s ‘firsts’.

Indeed, it was during Archie’s first visit to Dublin Zoo, in Phoenix Park, this week that Matilda Doll was lost. The family were enjoying a day out on Monday, 30th June, when they lost the treasure somewhere between the shop, the gate and Lord’s Walk car park.

Explaining the significance of this doll and the importance of finding her, Claire told the publication: “Matilda touched this doll. It was the same size as her and is so hugely precious to us. I've cuddled Matilda Doll to sleep every night since Matilda passed away. She even came to hospital with me when Matilda's baby brother Archie was born.”

Losing the doll has left the distraught mum feeling ‘like she’s lost a piece of Matilda’. She is now appealing to the public to get in touch if they, or anyone close to them, finds/ has found this precious doll.
