A mum has spoken of her utter devastation at the loss of her baby in a bid to warn pregnant women of the risks of going into early labour when on holidays.

Becky McMahon, from Dundee, was 26 weeks pregnant when, after being given the all-clear by her doctor, went on holidays with her mum, dad and sister to Hisaronu in Turkey.

Sadly, the 21-year-old went into labour early and gave birth to her daughter, Ella, just one week later in the back of an ambulance.

Little Ella was born weighing just 2lbs, suffered bleeding to the brain, a lack of oxygen and, heartbreakingly, passed away just 18 days later.

Speaking to The Tele to highlight the risks of going into premature labour when abroad, Becky described what happened while they were in Turkey.

“I wasn’t prepared at all. I started to feel really unwell and could not move. We phoned the villa doctor. He took me to his practice and they sent me to the hospital. They didn’t have any of the equipment they needed for a premature baby to be born there.”

The new mum is staying strong thanks to her family and, as well as highlighting the issue, wants more to be done for mothers who find themselves in similar situations.

"I’m lucky that I have a great family around me to get me through. I think that more needs to be done to help mothers recover from the psychological impact."
