With so many couples all over the world unable to have babies of their own, and each desperate for the chance to adopt, the following story really is as heart-breaking as it is shocking.

A Florida mum who had planned to give her baby up for adoption decided to keep the child, after the adoptive mother-to-be ‘fled’ the hospital upon discovering that the tot had Treacher Collins syndrome.

Christina Fisher, who is also mum to an 18-year-old daughter, initially decided to put her baby up for adoption as she felt she was not in a position to raise her. She worked with an agency to find suitable parents for her little one, and the plan was in motion when little Abigail Lynn arrived into the world in January of this year.

However, things didn’t work out quite as Christina expected, after Abigail was diagnosed with Treacher Collins syndrome.

On a GoFundMe page (link here), she explained: “She was born with Treacher Collins syndrome to our surprise...it was not detected in the amniocentesis or in the ultrasound. When she was born on 1-11-16, the adoptive mum left the hospital crying, saying how deformed she is...and never heard from her again.”

Christina said that the incident made her realise that Abigail was ‘meant to be hers’, and she decided to keep the tot and raise her herself.

“I was not fully prepared for her, but now I can no longer see my life without either one of my daughters,” she said, appealing for help to afford basics for her little one.

We’re wishing Christina and little Abigail all the best.
