The experts are forever telling us that breast milk has an amazing range of benefits, and how our bodies react to nourish our children is nothing short of amazing.

 

If you had any doubts, all you need to do is check out amazed mum Mallory Smothers’ viral Facebook post. Having once read a scholarly article about how breast milk changes to adapt to your baby’s needs, Mallory recently saw the proof for herself.

 

Sharing a photo of two bags of her breast milk, both pumped on different dates, Mallory drew her followers’ attention to the fact that the bags were two totally different colours.

 

She explained how she recently read that receptors in the mammary glands can analyse a baby’s spit and then change the milk’s composition, to better nourish the child when needs be – e.g. when they are sick.

 

So yall.. This is just cuckoo awesome-- I read an article from a medical journal not too long ago about how Mom's milk...

Mallory then saw this for herself as she compared a fresh pouch of milk with an older one, pumped after her baby had shown signs of sickness including sneezing, congestion and irritability.

 

“I didn't notice a difference until today, but look at how much more the milk I produced Friday resembles colostrum (the super-milk full of antibodies and leukocytes you make during the first few days after birth)...and this comes after nursing the baby with a cold all night long,” Mallory observed.

 

Describing the phenomenon as ‘awesome’, she echoed all of our thoughts as she added: “The human body never ceases to amaze me.”
