We recently reported on one mum who sent a warning to all parents to learn how to perform CPR after her baby suddenly stopped breathing and now another mum has issued another.

Emma Butterfield wants all parents to be aware of the dangers of jaundice after her daughter, Ada, had to endure a seven hour operation.

Emma from Allerton Bywater, became worried when her newborn was still suffering from jaundice at four-weeks-old, and took her concerns to the doctor.

Despite being told that nothing was wrong by medical professionals the 36-year-old said her instincts told her something was wrong.

“At first we were sent away by the midwife but mother’s instinct kicked in and told me something was wrong. I pushed the doctors for tests and within a week she was in theatre having a seven-hour operation.”

“The bile wasn’t flowing from Ada’s liver. It was just getting stuck and damaging her liver,” she explained.

She now wants all parents to be aware of the condition and to understand the dangers associated with it.

“I want to raise awareness of the condition and make sure people understand the seriousness of liver conditions. If Ada woudn’t have had the operation, the only solution would have been a liver transplant.”

“As a first-time mum I had no idea that Ada’s symptoms weren’t normal. I just dread to think what would happen if someone else was in my situation and wasn’t aware of how serious it could be,” she added.

While Ada is currently “on a lot of medicine” the now five-month-old is said to be doing well.
