We’re shocked when we see videos of women dancing through their labour, so to hear of a mum-to-be sleeping through the birth of her first child is eyebrow-raising stuff.

This was exactly the case for 24-year-old Jody Robson however, when she welcomed her first child into the world a number of years ago.

The Birmingham native has gone public with her story, explaining how – due to a rare neurological disorder – she can fall asleep for days and even weeks on end while her family life carries on around her.

While she hasn’t been formally diagnosed, the mother-of-two believes that she has Kleine Levin Syndrome (KLS) – commonly referred to as Sleeping Beauty Syndrome – which causes those affected to fall into a deep sleep that can last for weeks at a time.

In an interview with Barcroft TV, Jody revealed how she slept right through the birth of eldest son Harvey, and had to be introduced to her little one by her husband, Steven.

Explaining how she fell asleep the day before Harvey’s birth and woke up two weeks later to find no bump, she said: “I honestly feel like I am sleeping through my children’s lives – I’m missing out on so much.”

Jody says she has suffered with the condition since the age of 12, when she fell asleep at a sleepover and woke up eight days later. Her unique symptoms mean that she has missed out on Christmases, birthdays and other major family events throughout the years.

Do you know anyone affected by KLS?
