Given that Kim Kardashian last week revealed her son’s name to be Saint, we can honestly say that 2015 has been the year of unusual baby names.

Coming in a close second, however, is a baby who was born in the backseat of an Uber taxi in India this week.

According to a report in the Times of India, the mother in question went into labour at home and was unable to get hold of an ambulance. In a desperate bid to get to the hospital on time, she hailed an Uber taxi.

However, despite driver Shahnawaz’s best efforts, he was unable to make it to the hospital on time, and he – along with two of the mother’s friends – had to deliver the baby in the backseat of the car.

Recalling the dramatic encounter, Shahnawaz told the newspaper: “I pulled out the towels from the seats and poured some drinking water into a bowl. The child was born within minutes and I was really happy to see that he was responding.”

The woman welcomed a healthy baby boy, and Shahnawaz immediately dropped the mother and child off at the hospital for recovery.

In honour of Shahnawaz’s act, the woman’s family proceeded to ask him to name the baby boy – and he has chosen the name ‘Uber’ to mark the significance of the events. He will officially name the child in a special ceremony tomorrow.
