A mum-of-two's bikini picture has gone viral after she took to Facebook to hit back at the cruel comments she had received on the beach.

Julie Cross was walking along a beach in her home of Brisbane, Australia when she heard some teenagers mocking how she looked.

The 46-year-old, who describes herself as "a size 10 on a good day, a size up on other days," made the brave decision to post a happy snap of her in her swimsuit on Facebook, with a post explaining her decision.

"I thought long and hard about this post," she wrote. "The other day at the beach I walked past a group of young people in my bikini, and I heard a comment... 'I think she is over the bikini!'... And I faltered for a moment and then went on."

Julie went on to explain how she loves her body as it gave her two children. "I have child bearing hips and stretch marks on my tummy that I am proud of because I carried two beautiful big 9 pound healthy baby boys, I have cellulite from my knees up, it has been there since I was 3 and cute, I am healthy, strong, proud and happy."

The photo has received a huge response online, with over 170,000 likes and 4,000 shares so far.

Julie, who works professionally as a motivational speaker, said she was blown away by the reaction. "I'm absolutely stunned," she told Daily Mail Australia. "I just can’t believe it would create that much activity."

She hopes it will encourage other women to be proud of their bodies.

"We need to feel good about ourselves and know that we can handle this, because life will give you some challenges." she said. "We shouldn't get caught up thinking about the dimples in our thighs because there are really bigger things we've got to deal with."
