If you ever feel disillusioned by the ways of the modern world, just remind yourself that there are still some truly amazing people out there.

‘Amazing’ is certainly the word to be used for a group of mothers in Palm Springs, California, who banded together to donate breast milk to the child of a police officer who was shot and killed last weekend.

Officer Lesley Zerebny had only recently returned to work from maternity leave, after having daughter Cora, now four months.

In the wake of Officer Zerebny’s tragic death, there was an outpouring of love and support online.

A relative appealing for prayers was asked if donated breast milk would be accepted – and the answer was a very appreciative ‘yes’.

So, a woman – known only as Ashley – sent out an appeal. Within 24 hours, local mothers had pumped and donated 500 ounces of breast milk for baby Cora.

The milk is due to be screened and tested, and will be given to Cora once it is deemed safe.

Local news presenter Claudine Wong took to Facebook to share photos of the milk, after Ashley sent them on.

“This is not about breast milk or formula, it’s about the human heart and about the desire and the capacity of people to give,” wrote Claudine.

Well done to all involved.
