When it comes to our children, we need to be constantly on the alert for potential dangers, and this extends to what we serve them up on their plates and in their lunchboxes.

This has never been so important to reiterate, in the wake of Canadian mum Angela Henderson’s recent experience with her five-year-old son.

Angela, a mum-of-two who currently resides in Australia with her family, took to her Facebook page to share a warning over food choking hazards.

The concerned mum took to her Finlee and Me page to post a photo of a grape ‘lodged in the top of her five-year-old’s airway’. Apparently, her little one had choked on the piece of fruit.

She went on to explain: “This sweet soul had to be operated on, under general anaesthetic, to remove the grape. He is VERY lucky that part of his airway was open, or else this could have ended badly.”

Counting her stars that her son managed to get through the traumatic experience, Angela went on to share a very important piece of advice with parents everywhere – and it’s something that we all need reminding of.

“Please be mindful that not all kids chew their food, are in a rush at school to get to the playground, etc. Please be careful. And when in doubt, just cut the damn grapes, baby tomatoes, etc.,” she wrote.

Angela’s post has really struck a chord across social media, with many taking to the post’s comment section to thank her for sharing her potentially life-saving advice. Many others shared their own words of warning.

“Believe it or not, another horrible thing to give a child, is an ice cube. Nearly lost one of mine who had one in her mouth!” wrote one mother.

Another chimed in, “Cut those grapes in halves or quarters”, while someone else added, “Marshmallows are dangerous, too!”

With over 25,000 shares across Facebook, it seems like a lot of people have taken Angela’s advice and warning on board.
