Last year we shared the terrifying story of Heather and Adam Schreck, the couple who woke to find a hacker telling their baby to ‘wake up’ through their baby monitor, and today, another incident of monitor hacking has been reported.

A nanny in the US has spoken of her horror after hearing a stranger’s voice calling a one-year-old child “cute” over her baby monitor.

Ashley Stanley was minding one-year-old Samantha when she heard a noise coming from the baby’s crib. The monitor, which was connected to a high-resolution camera, appeared to have been hacked and featured a strange voice speaking about the baby.

A frightened Ashley said: “I kept hearing this strange noise from over there by the crib. They kept telling me that it’s a cute baby and ‘wow that is a poopy diaper’. I was like, my goodness, are they watching me right now?”

Ashley unplugged the monitoring system and was too afraid to switch it back on.

We can’t imagine how scary this must have been for Ashley, and it begs the question of just how safe our baby monitoring systems really are in this modern world.
