Any parent will be familiar with pacing the room in front of their baby's crib at 3am, exclaiming 'What is wrong? Why won't you go to sleep?!' If you can wholeheartedly identify with this, then the following report will definitely be of interest.

A team of Taiwanese researchers have created an app that will easily and effectively decode your baby's cries on request.

The Infant Cries Translator is the brain-child of a team at the National Taiwan University Hospital, and can apparently tell you what your child wants based on the sound of its cry.

For their research, the team recorded and studied the cries of newborns, collecting a staggering 200,000 sounds on their special database. They were then able to isolate four distinguishable cries associated with hunger, sleep, pain and a wet nappy.

To establish what their baby needs, parents can download the app and then record their baby's cry for 10 seconds. The sound will then be sent to a drive, where it will be cross-referenced with the app's database.

Once the parent enters their baby's age and nationality, the app will send back his or her ailment.

The team behind the app have enjoyed much success through their trials, boasting a 92% accuracy rate so far for babies under two weeks of age.

Is this an app that you need or would consider downloading?
