It sounds like a storyline taken right out of a Christmas movie, but according to the reports, the following story is very real.

The custodian of a church in Queens, New York has this week found a newborn baby boy abandoned in a nativity scene.

Jose Moran discovered the baby, found wrapped in purple towels with its umbilical cord still attached, in the display at the crèche in the Holy Child Jesus Church.

Recalling the moment he discovered the little one, Moran told the Daily News: “I was in the church sweeping. Then I hear a child crying. I didn’t make much of it. I thought there was somebody in the church with a child.”

When Jose couldn’t see anyone, he admits he grew ‘curious’ and, after following the child’s cries, he made the startling discovery. “I couldn’t believe my eyes. The baby was wrapped in towels. He still had his umbilical cord. He was next to the Virgin,” he added.

The child was taken to the nearby Jamaica Hospital, where he has been given a clean bill of health. He is in the care of Child Services while police try to locate his mother.

The child is now being referred to as ‘Baby Jesus’ due to the circumstances of his discovery. Appeals have been issued for the mother to come forward.

We hope that this little one and his mother receive the help and care they need.
