Doctors are always able to identify the older twin, whether it comes down to the difference of a mere minute or two, but the case of Samuel and Ronan Peterson has left the internet truly baffled.

The twins were born this week at Cape Cod Maternity Hospital, and the staff took to their Facebook page to pose the ‘riddle’ of their age difference.

Tkay Maidza unsure thinking pondering undecided

“Riddle of the day: Samuel was born first, but his twin brother Ronan is older. How is that possible?” read the Facebook post, accompanied by a photo of the boys with parents Emily and Seth.

Can you guess the answer?

No? Don’t worry, we couldn’t either! Apparently, it all comes down to Daylight Savings Time.

The post explained: “Samuel was born at 1:39am on Sunday, Nov. 6, and by the time Ronan was born 31 minutes later, Daylight Savings Time had ended for the year, and the time fell back by an hour, making Ronan’s official time of birth 1:10am.”

According to one of the nurses who helped to deliver the boys, she hasn’t witnessed something this unique in her 40 years in the profession!

We have a feeling that this is the beginning of a future, long-running sibling argument!
