Often, twins love to play up what makes them really unique from one another, but the Valencia twins from San Diego won't have to look too far for inspiration!

Newborn Jaelyn and Luis Valencia have made headlines after reportedly arriving into the world in two different years.

Maribel and Luis Valencia welcomed daughter Jaelyn at 11.59pm on New Year's Eve, while their son Luis Jr. arrived into the world three minutes later, at 12.02am on New Year's Day.

Born in San Diego's Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Centre, little Jaelyn weighed in at 4lb 15oz, while brother Luis came in at 5lb 9oz.

Although the twins' due date was set for late January, they - along with their mother - are said to be doing very well.

A hospital representative spoke of the tots' unexpected arrival, telling the New York Daily News: "They were getting ready to go away for the weekend. They thought they'd have to do a C-section. She [Maribel] really wanted a natural delivery, and her doctor made that happen."

What a way to ring in the new year! Congratulations to the family on their new arrivals.
