Scientists have shared a very significant medical update with the world today, after a newborn baby’s heart attack led to an astonishing finding.

After saving the newborn baby’s life, the team of researchers from Austria were able to confirm that the human heart can fully recover after suffering major damage.

According to the research report published in the journal Circulation Research, the newborn suffered a heart attack shortly after its birth. The attack was reportedly caused by a blockage in one of the main blood vessels of the heart.

Lead researcher Bernhard Haubner explained: “The baby’s heart was severely damaged. Astonishingly, the baby recovered very quickly. One-and-a-half months after his severe illness, we were able to release the child. His heart is functioning normally.”

Of the significance of the research, Haubner added: “This observation proves for the first time that the human heart can fully recover after suffering massive damage. The discovery has enormous potential. After all, cardiovascular diseases are among the most frequent causes of death worldwide.”

Indeed, the research report states that millions of people die from heart disease each year. No doubt this latest finding will aid research and treatment techniques going forward.
