There is nothing more comforting then cuddling a teeny little kitten, but it seems it could actually be BAD for our health.

Experts from the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in the US found that the impact of cat scratch fever - a potentially deadly disease - is bigger than they initially thought.

Doctors are now warning that owners, and any cat handlers, wash their hands after touching a feline as well as avoid kissing them. The disease, which can cause a fever and even death, is more likely to be found in kittens and stray cats and can be spread if you don’t wash your hands.

However, on a good note, annual incidences of the infection is just 4.5 outpatient diagnoses per 100,000 of the population, according to the Telegraph.

"Cat-scratch is preventable. If we can identify the populations at risk and the patterns of disease, we can focus the prevention efforts."
