This November, thousands of post-primary students are working on their ‘One Good Idea’ project which aims to improve awareness levels of environmental issues such as climate change and energy efficiency in Ireland.

This campaign is organised by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and is supported by the Better Energy programme and the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. The project hopes to encourage students to take individual and collective responsibility for tackling energy efficiency and climate change, also wishes to highlight that one good idea can make an impact to our pockets and our planet.

The nationwide competition will be judged at a national final in May 2012. The winning team will be awarded with thousands of euros worth of fantastic prizes for both students and the schools.

The ‘One Good Idea’ project will see students work in groups to research, design and implement a campaign to promote energy efficiency and improve climate change awareness to one of three target audiences: adults and the wider community, their peers or primary school children. Students can incorporate art, music, events, film, photography or writing to bring their idea to life and ensure the message reaches their audience in an effective way. The projects can be designed around a number of topics that relate to climate change and energy efficiency. Students can avail of support from teachers, project packs, a website full of resources and ideas, a facilitated workshop for the top 100 teams and the ‘One Good Idea’ team, who are on hand to help progress the campaigns.
