Welcoming a preemie baby into the world can take a new mum on a rollercoaster of emotion, and it all comes back to one desire: to provide the very best care for our precious little ones.

This is why the latest innovation by Pampers is about to change everything for Irish mums of premature newborns.

Pampers has just launched its smallest ever nappy. Designed specifically to cater to premature babies, the Pampers Preemie Protection Size P3 nappy is three sizes smaller than a regular newborn nappy.

Suitable for babies weighing as little at 1.8lbs, this innovative new nappy has been created specifically to meet the needs of the tiniest babies, minimising disruption to help them with sleep, positioning and medical care.

Pampers is serious about its commitment to the happy and healthy development of every single baby in Ireland, which is why they are doing something very special with the launch of this game-changing product.

In conjunction with Irish Premature Babies, Pampers is making 300,000 Preemie Protection nappies available to Irish Maternity hospitals, thus giving every preemie born access to free nappies.

And with approximately 4,500 babies born prematurely in Ireland each year, this product and this gesture have never been so important.

Explaining the significance of these new nappies, neonatal nurse and developmental specialist Cherry Bond said: “Premature babies have very unique requirements, which need to be valued and considered in every element of their care; the right nappy is no exception.

“The nappies that are currently available do not fit the smallest babies properly, so are often cut and folded to size, which can cause discomfort and impede optimal development.

One person who can attest to this, who is throwing her support behind Pampers’ campaign, is mum-of-four Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Sophie, who welcomed two of her sons at 31 and 32 weeks, respectively, said: “During our stretch in hospital, nappy-changing was one of the few chances we had to touch and bond with our boys. They were so fragile and it was difficult – we tried to fold the bigger nappies over, but the boys looked really uncomfortable in them.

“I am so pleased that Pampers has developed special nappies for preemies and is donating them to Irish hospitals. This will make such a huge difference to these tiny babies and their families.”
