We have reported on one too many tragic stories of babies being abandoned at birth, and now, sadly, another has emerged from India.

According to reports, a baby girl, who was born in the seventh month of pregnancy, has been abandoned by her parents due to a rare condition which causes her skin to appear wrinkly.

Doctors have said that the youngster, who is currently being cared for by her grandfather, Dilip Dode, has Intra-Uterine Growth Retardation and chromosomal abnormality.

The little girl’s grandfather has spoken out about the heartbreaking events, saying: "I am thankful to the hospital for giving free medical treatment to my granddaughter. It is really disheartening that even her parents have rejected her but I will go to any extent to save her."

Dilip, who fed the newborn goats milk from a spoon before taking her to the hospital after she fell ill, said that her parents “ran away in fear” after her birth.

According to The Mirror, the 50-year-old whose son is the baby’s father, said: "When the baby was given to us, we were left shocked. Everyone gathered at our home to have a look at the baby and when they got to see her they ran away in fear."

Wadia Hospital in Mumbai is paying for the medical costs which are expected to be around £5,000, and have said that they will continue to treat the little girl until they have diagnosed her condition.

The youngster will be cared for by her granddad for now, and he hopes he can convince her mother and father to accept her.
