It has been revealed that more and more parents are being forced to have a conversation with their children before they feel they should.
70% of British children admitted to needing to talk with their children about sex and even pornography, before their children were 11 years old.
The cause of this? The internet. Parents say that it is getting harder and harder to control what their children are seeing and to avoid any bad incidents arising from social media and the internet, they feel it is best to have this discussion early.
Dr Leslie Haddon from the London School of Economics has studied the ways in which children use the internet and says that this has been going on for longer than we might think.
According to Dr Haddon, seeing increased amounts of sexual images is not just limited to the internet and can be attributed to magazines and TV also, “You wouldn’t say that all these things are attributable to the internet, but in that particular case nowadays you can come across more things.”
