Well this is going to give us nightmares for weeks.

Derbyshire mum, Victoria Pryor, was walking into her bedroom after a hot bath when her newborn suddenly “fell out” of her body and landed on the floor, snapping his umbilical cord.

Victoria and her husband Anthony went into hospital earlier that day complaining of labour pains, but were sent home by midwives and told to take a paracetamol and a warm bath.

When the first-time mum got out of the bath, the pains intensified and she was positive her little boy was on his way. However, as Anthony phoned the midwives and Victoria tried to make it to their bed to give birth, “Aiden just came out - there was nothing I could do to stop it”.

Speaking about the incident, Victoria said: "The birth was a nightmare, it was so unexpected… he literally fell out of me onto the bedroom floor.

"The umbilical cord snapped so me and my husband both really panicked, and we noticed that one eye was completely closed with no eyelashes. In the stress of the moment, all I could think was that he'd bumped his head as he landed. We later realised, to our relief, that that wasn't the case. “

Realising that something was wrong after little Aiden's eye wouldn't open, the new mum and dad took him to a specialist eye clinic, worried that the fall had permanently damanged him. However the doctor first suggested that he may be missing his left eyeball and an ultrasound later confirmed it was anophthalmia.

At four-weeks-old, the little boy was fitted with his first prosthetic eye at the National Artificial Eye Service in Nottingham and has a received a number of different prosthetics since then to keep up with his growth rates. Now, at four-years old, Aiden is doing really well and his mum could not be prouder of him.  “Aiden's been really brave about his condition but he has no depth perception so he's quite clumsy. It's also made him more shy than other children his age, but we're really proud of him."
