A mother has issued an important warning this week, after her seven-month-old daughter almost choked on stuffing that had become exposed on her toy doll.

Kath Milroy Pattingale took to Facebook to share her urgent message, after a frightening incident with little Maddison.

Thankfully, Kath and her partner were right beside Maddison when she began to struggle, and managed to help her.

“She’d choked on plastic stuffing from the back of this doll. The stitching on the back had come undone, and the crinkly noise it makes is because it’s stuffed with cellophane which she’d ripped and got stuck in her throat (she doesn’t have any teeth yet),” she wrote.

Kath admitted that she had always trusted toys like this and ‘never thought twice about the safety of them’.

With so many cuddly toys in our children’s nurseries, it’s so important to be aware of the potential danger that a simple rip in one could cause.

Appealing to her fellow mums and dads out there, Kath wrote: “Please, please, please check the stitching on yours. I wasn’t sure whether to post anything about this, but I’d never forgive myself if I heard of another baby choking on these toys and I’d kept quiet!

“Please share so that other mums can check their toys and we can prevent another child choking.”

Kath’s Facebook post has garnered plenty of attention online, with many taking to the comment section to thank her for sharing such an important message.

This story comes just weeks after a father took to Facebook to warn other parents about the dangers posed by grapes.

Steve Hulbert’s five-year-old son, Oli, was rushed to hospital after choking on a piece of the fruit. Thankfully, due to his quick action and the dedicated work of the emergency services, Oli was saved.

“They fought for 10 minutes before support arrived from two more paramedic vehicles and the air ambulance. And then, in a moment that changed the course of our lives, they dislodged the grape, and Oli sucked in air,” wrote Steve, beside a photo of his son in a hospital bed.

“I want to shout thanks from the rooftops to the paramedics that arrived quickly enough to save Oli’s life.”

Let’s hope that no other parent has to endure the fright that Kath and her family just have.
