Police in Greater Manchester have launched an urgent appeal following the disappearance of a 22-year-old woman and her newborn son from the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Salma Reysalt, whose whereabouts are a major concern for police officials, exited the doors of the Manchester hospital at 8pm on Monday night and hasn't been seen since.

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Salma, who brought her two-day-old son with her when she left, was last seen wearing a black jacket and pink sari.

The young mother, who has been described as Asian, approximately 5 foot 4 in height with shoulder-length black hair, is understood to have links with the Rochdale and Oldham areas.

Appealing to the public to come forward with any information they may have regarding Salma's whereabouts, Detective Inspector Lee Hopwood, from GMP’s Rochdale division said: "We are appealing for anyone that may have seen her or her baby, to please get in touch."

Highlighting the concerns police have regarding the young woman and her baby son, he continued: "Clearly we are keen to find Salma and her baby boy so we can ensure they are both safe."

Anyone with any information has been urged to contact police at Rochdale police station on 0161 856 8528, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
