Just a day after it emerged that 16-month-old twins died in a hot car accident in the US, it has been reported that police officers in Texas have managed to save a nine-month-old baby from suffering a similar fate.

According to CBS, the child’s grandmother parked her car outside of her house yesterday morning and went inside, forgetting that the tot was in the backseat. It was only an hour later that she realised her mistake.

A member of the local police, who was first to respond, managed to bring the baby’s temperature down with cold, wet towels.

Speaking to the local news outlet, Captain Ed Black said: “I’ve never picked up a child that was that hot before. They’re extremely lucky. This child was a few minutes from dying.”

He added: “I tell parents, ‘Try it yourself. Go out at night and sit in the car for 10 or 15 minutes. It’s not pleasant.’”

The child is said to be ‘improving’, having been released from hospital shortly after, on Friday afternoon.

While CBS states that the grandmother is not yet facing charges, the results of a police investigation are pending.
