Naming your little one can be a difficult task, but coming up with nicknames for your baby is always a more fun process!
Pregnacare, Ireland’s trusted pregnancy supplement brand, has uncovered the most popular nicknames for babies across Ireland.
In a survey taken by 1,000 Irish parents, 25% of participants confirmed that they gave their baby a nickname before birth, with Peanut, Bean, and Nugget being the most popular bump names.
Nicknames are especially popular among younger parents and those living in Dublin, as well as across Leinster and Munster. The study also revealed that bump nicknaming is fast becoming a sweet and meaningful part of the parenting journey across Ireland.
Over half of parents (54%) shared that they have already picked their baby’s name before birth. Millennials are the generation to decide most early on in their pregnancy journey (66%), compared to 40% of baby boomers.
The survey discovered that it was more common for females (59%) to have chosen their baby’s name before birth, compared to just under half of males (47%). 6 in 10 parents in Leinster tend to have a name chosen before birth, compared to around 50% of parents in the rest of the country.
Elsewhere in the report, 1 in 4 (23%) parents admitted that they have changed their baby’s name after birth, with Dubliners coming out as the most likely to make a last-minute swap (33%). In terms of generations, boomers and parents in Connaught and Ulster are more likely to stick with their original moniker, while Gen X parents were most likely to change their choice of name.
From adorable nicknames to name debates, Pregnacare’s survey concluded that today’s families are making the naming process uniquely their own.
