Sometimes a room just doesn't feel quite right, no matter how much time and money you spend trying to create the perfect space.

It’s hard to put your finger on the exact reason why your room feels a little ‘off’, but here are a few possible reasons, and how to easily fix them.

It lacks meaning: You might feel as if you’ve done everything right with your decor, but a room won't really feel finished if it doesn’t have the elements that reflect its owner's life and personality. To give the room more meaning, add precious pictures of loved ones, accessories that evoke happy memories and experiences, or artwork you love.

The layout doesn’t quite fit: Sometimes furniture gets placed in certain spots when you first move in and stays that way, whether it works or not. Consider a few things when looking at the layout of your furniture - the focal point of the room, the space limitations of the room, how you use this space.  If you wanted your focal point to be a gorgeous fireplace for example, but your seating is circled around a TV, it might be time for a rearrangement.

Not enough natural light: You probably can't knock out a wall to add another window if your home is lacking in natural light.  But a lack of natural light in a space makes a huge impact on a room not feeling quite right. A free thing you can do is giving windows a good clean to let more of the light you do have in. You can also paint the ceilings a lighter colour than the walls or add more mirrors to the space.

Not enough visual height: You may have arrange too many features of your room at a low height, that may make the space feel and look crowded and stuffy. Spreading your decor upwards will make your room feel more spacious and airy. This can be done by raising the height of something, for example, move a few plants from the ground to a table or the windowsill. Or perhaps add a bookcase, tall lamp, or bold ceiling light to draw the eye up from the ground.
