As previous stories have proven, social media can be a lifeline to people struggling in their darkest moments, and grieving mum Brittinea Campbell’s experience has highlighted this in recent times.

The mother-of-two took to social networking site Reddit this month to share a plea for help. Having lost her partner on Christmas Eve, Brittinea revealed that she was struggling both emotionally and financially, with a 10-week-old baby and 12-year-old daughter to care for.

“I was a stay-at-home mom, and my partner paid all of the bills and did everything for us. I will now be going to work and taking my baby with me once I get my emotions under control, if that’s possible. This isn’t how I thought my life was going to go, and I’ve never felt so alone in my life,” she explained.

To add to her stress, she revealed that her late partner’s family had warned people against donating to a GoFundMe page set up by a friend, insisting that any money donated go into a college fund for the child.

Brittinea went on to appeal to the Reddit community for help in purchasing basic supplies for her newborn. She proceeded to link to an Amazon list containing items such as baby shoes, baby wipes and toilet paper.

Incredibly, the Reddit community rallied around the mother, and she took to the site this week to share a photo of all of the items donated to her baby – they ranged from nappies to soft toys and the requested baby shoes.

Expressing her gratitude to the kind strangers who donated when she was most in need, Brittinea wrote: “I was really struggling and Reddit helped me out. I’m so grateful. Thank you.”

Yet another story illustrating the power of generosity and compassion. Well done to all involved.
