There is nothing that we love better than a ‘beating the odds’ story, and that of little Bentley Yoder is the most perfect example of this.

The tot, who was born with his brain outside of his skull, has beaten the odds to thrive at eight months – despite doctors initially believing he would only survive for mere hours after birth.

Bentley, from Ohio in the US, was born with a rare congenital disorder called encephalocele, picked up in an early ultrasound while mum Sierra was expecting.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Sierra revealed that she and husband Dustin expected to get maybe just an hour or so with their son, after she went into labour last October.

Indeed, having been told by doctors that Bentley was ‘incompatible with life’, they geared themselves up for the worst case scenario.

Luckily, however, Bentley proved himself to be a total fighter, and doctors soon turned to the issue of how they were going to get his brain back inside of his skull.

In what has been described by staff at Boston Children’s Hospital as a ‘life-saving procedure’, doctors have been able to move the tot’s brain back into his skull through reconstructive surgery.

And while Bentley’s life will not be ‘normal’, his parents told the publication that they are just taking things one step at a time.

“He will have a rewarding life,” assured proud mum Sierra.

We’re wishing the family all the best with Bentley’s recovery.
