Today, 61,736 students nationwide will receive their Leaving Certificate results.
From 10am this morning the State Examinations Commission shared the results of the 2023 students who sat the Leaving Certificate Established, Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Vocational Programmes.
To mark the big day, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris has shared a thoughtful message to those students who were collecting their results this morning.
The Minister stated, “I want to congratulate every Leaving Cert student who has made it this far. I truly hope the news they received today is what they were hoping for”.
“This cohort of students has faced many challenges over the past few years but, with the support of their teachers and parents, they have now reached this significant milestone in their life. It’s a wonderful achievement and they should take this time to enjoy what is an incredibly special moment”.
“In advance of the CAO offers being issued next week, I would also like to remind students that there are so many pathways out there towards their chosen studies and dream career”.
He continued, “If they do not receive offers for one of their preferred courses do not give up - please know that there other routes available”.
“There are plenty of courses which can get you where you want to go, be it through PLC and Further Education courses, apprenticeships or the recently announced unified tertiary courses in which students will be able to enroll in one of 23 new degree courses outside of the CAO points race across a wide range of sectors – for the first time ever”.
Harris closed off by adding, “For each student today there is so much to be excited about as a new chapter of their life begins. Remember that education is a lifelong journey, one which can constantly improve your knowledge and skills and, ultimately, help you achieve your full potential”.
This year’s Leaving Cert students are part of the group who did not sit Junior Certificate exams due to the pandemic, meaning the Leaving Cert was their first experience with State examinations.
Those who took part in transition year should have sat the Junior Cert in 2021, and those who went straight into fifth year were supposed to sit the Junior Cert exams in 2020, but both were cancelled due to Covid.
The first round of CAO offers will be issued next week on Wednesday, August 30.
