We parents would do anything for our children, and giving them the gift of life – again – is one of the greatest gestures we could extend.

When Alice Hohenhaus was told by doctors that it wasn’t safe to carry a child, and she would need to enlist the help of a surrogate, her mother Theresa didn’t hesitate to volunteer.

Alice has battled leukaemia on and off from a young age, and after being left with scar tissue from radiation treatment, doctors believed she would never conceive.

When a Mother gives her daughter a son This moment is one that I will NEVER forget!!!! This photo captures the moment that a new Mum met her son....and a Grandmother finally held the grandson that she has been carrying for her daughter for the past 9 months. Unable to carry her own baby for medical reasons, this beautiful mother became her daughters surrogate - nurturing her baby for 9 months and then bringing him into the world for her daughter. It was one of the most beautiful and incredible births I've ever photographed.....and I have to admit - I cried too. This amazing family have been through so much to reach this moment and it was such an incredible honour to be asked to capture some amazing images for them to remember forever. This is just one of so many to come. A BIG congratulations to our newest Mum, our newest Grandmother and all the family involved!! You are simply amazing! And a BIG Welcome to the World to little Parker.....you are already loved so much and will be one spoilt little boy <3 Selena Rollason, Photographer APP AIPP 0421 031 007 www.brisbanebirthphotography.com.au selena@brisbanebirthphotography.com.au #selenarollason #brisbane #bbp #brisbanebirthphotography #birthphotography @birthwithoutfear #birthwithoutfear #surrogate #surrogacy #grandmother #birthphotographerbrisbane #ipswich #standrews #hospital #naturalbirth #newborn #newmum #justborn @canonaustralia #aipp #accreditedprofessionalphotographer #australia #2015Australianbirthphotographeroftheyear

Alice refused to give up on the idea of having children, however, and she proceeded to undergo IVF. While she did fall pregnant at the age of 23, she sadly lost her baby early on in the pregnancy.

After experiencing a massive haemorrhage following her miscarriage, Alice was dealt a further heart-breaking blow: doctors told her that carrying a child would put her life at serious risk.

With surrogacy her only hope left for having a child, Alice’s mum Theresa stepped up to the plate. A mum-of-five herself, and a foster mum to 50 children, the 46-year-old was more than happy to grant the gift of life to her daughter.

Happily, on 2nd June, Alice’s son Parker entered the world. Birth photographer Selena Rollinson was on hand to capture the first shot of the newborn with his mum and grandmother, and the beautiful image has delighted people all over the world since being shared online.

“Beautiful little Parker…even gave us a little smile post-delivery. Granddad, who you see in the background, also played an integral role during the labour and delivery, supporting his wife throughout the whole day,” wrote Selena, on her Brisbane Birth Photography Instagram account.

The delighted photographer added: “This family have so much love to give and so much love for each other. It’s the way family should be!”

Congratulations to the family on their amazing news.
