There is nothing worse than dry lips that become chapped and eventually crack. Not only are they unsightly, they can actually be pretty sore and when severe can even bleed. Seeing as the winter is the most common time for anyone to suffer from them, many of us are probably walking around with sore lips right now.

Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to help ease your discomfort:

Exfoliate them

Exfoliating will help remove the dead skin and help your lips feel smoother. There are a number of products you can buy or for a DIY alternative, mix a teaspoon of sugar with half teaspoon of honey and rub onto your lips.

Lip balm

Regularly apply a lip balm to keep your lips moisturised and to help prevent further chapping. Make sure you go for one that contains beeswax or shea butter.

Drink plenty of water

While normally associated with the weather, dry lips can also be a sign of dehydration so make sure you are drinking plenty of water and fluids.

Rub coconut oil onto it

If you have coconut oil in your home, pour a drop of it onto your finger and gently dab it on.

Avoid licking or touching your lips too often as they can become infected.
