The bond between a grandparent and their grandchild is one of the most beautiful phenomena in life, and Brandy Gregware’s post proving this may just reduce you to tears.

Brandy took to Facebook this week to share a beautiful black-and-white photo of her father and her son - both of whom have been through a traumatic year, health-wise – displaying their loving bond.

Explaining the story behind the striking image of her ‘two fighting miracles’, Brandy explained that her father has had ‘two open heart surgeries, 18 stents, a pacemaker, a deflator, arty disease, diabetes, a massive stroke and countless mini heart attacks’. He currently has 10% heart function.

In a very sad revelation, she added: “His last admission was at the heart failure hospital in Atlanta. They were able to put him on a medicine that helps his heart beat a little stronger. Once the medicine is no longer effective, we will be saying our goodbyes.”

Her son Kolbie Lee, meanwhile, had his first open heart surgery at the age of four months, and was born with ‘a heart defect, pulmonary vein stenosis, pulmonary hypertension, chronic lung disease, kidney disease and Down Syndrome’.

Now 10 months old, little Kolbie has spent seven of those months in hospital and, like his grandfather, has a ‘zipper’ scar to show for his health struggles.

As this poignant image shows, Kolbie and his grandfather have developed a close bond through their shared struggle – and it’s something which has brought great comfort to their family, in particular, Brandy.

She wrote: “I sit and watch my dad hold Kolbie for hours, and they chat about their matching zippers! You can definitely see the love and bond these two miracle fighters have in this picture! I say this with tears in my eyes: my dad's life is slowing ending, and my son's is just being.”

She went on to urge those who are touched by the photo to believe in everyday ‘fighting’ miracles.
