The Belfast City Break That Comes With Whiskey and a Side of History

There are city breaks, and then there are city breaks with a story worth telling. If you've been quietly filing Belfast under "must get to eventually," this new package from Titanic Hotel Belfast might just be the nudge you need to actually book it.

The hotel has launched its new Titanic Distillers Experience, a collaboration with the neighbouring Titanic Distillers that brings together two of the most compelling chapters in Belfast's history — shipbuilding and whiskey — under one beautifully crafted overnight package. It starts from £209 / €240 per room for two people, including breakfast.

Where history literally went to work

Titanic Hotel Belfast is housed in the meticulously restored former Harland & Wolff headquarters — the very building where the RMS Titanic was designed. The rooms carry that maritime soul beautifully, with Art Deco furnishings, ships' lanterns and nautical artwork that feel atmospheric rather than gimmicky. You genuinely feel like you're somewhere that matters.

Just moments away, Titanic Distillers has made its home in the historic Thompson Dock Pumphouse — the red-brick Victorian building with arched windows and a clock tower that once housed the engines used to drain over 26 million gallons of water from Thompson Dock, where the Titanic stood during fitting out. It's now Belfast's first working whiskey distillery in almost 90 years, having begun spirit production in 2023 after the city went without one since the 1930s.

What's included in the package

Think of it as a proper grown-up escape. The package includes an overnight stay in one of the hotel's elegant rooms, where you'll find a welcome sample of Titanic Distillers' premium award-winning Irish whiskey and artisan truffles waiting on arrival. A lovely touch that, particularly if your usual evening involves negotiating bedtime with a four-year-old and eating cold pasta standing over the sink.

The centrepiece is the Titanic Distillers Signature Tour, a fully guided experience through the working distillery and historic Pumphouse. You'll learn how Belfast's whiskey tradition faded and how it's been carefully revived on the very ground where the Titanic once dominated the skyline. There's a guided tasting of Titanic Distillers' finest Irish spirits included too.

Siobhan Winston, General Manager of Titanic Distillers, says the experience is about more than a dram. "At Titanic Distillers, it's about quality, authenticity and giving visitors a fresh way to engage with the city's whiskey story. We offer something that feels distinctive, social and memorable, and we look forward to welcoming guests to experience it for themselves in the heart of Belfast's Maritime Mile."

The morning brings a hearty breakfast in the hotel's Wolff Grill — described, entirely fairly, as a "Titanic-sized breakfast" — before you head out to explore the rest of Belfast at your own pace. The Titanic Belfast visitor experience is literally 50 metres from the hotel door, should you want to make a full day of it.

Getting there from the Republic

Belfast is more accessible than people sometimes realise. It's just over two hours from Dublin by train, with 15 trains a day running Monday to Saturday, and roughly the same by car. Adrian McNally, General Manager of Titanic Hotel Belfast, captures it well: "Guests stay where some of the world's most famous ocean liners were designed, then step just moments away to see how Belfast's distilling tradition has been reborn in the very heart of the Titanic Quarter. It's a unique way to experience the authenticity, warmth and character that make this part of the city so special."

The Titanic Distillers package starts from £209 / €240 per room for two, including breakfast. Two-night stays start from £458 / €525, subject to availability. Once you book, the hotel team will be in touch to arrange a time for your distillery tour. Full details and bookings are available at titanichotelbelfast.com.
