Twin girls Jillian and Jenna were born to Sarah Thistlewaite and her husband Bill last year in Ohio.

The identical twin girls were born monoamniotic or "mono mono" which is happens in one in 10,000 pregnancies and is a potentially life-threatening condition which means the girls shared the same amniotic sac and placenta.

The pair were grasping each other’s hands when they arrived into the world, and their mum said there wasn't a dry eye in the delivery room.

"They're already best friends," said the 32-year-old mum. "I can't believe they were holding hands. That's amazing."

And it seems the girls still share that incredible bond now as their parents find it impossible to keep them apart.

“Sometimes if my husband goes to the store, he’ll take one twin and I’ll keep the other.

“When that happens, they both get really upset and ask for each other. They’re definitely really close. They’re like two peas in a pod.”

Mum Sarah said of the girls and their relationship.

The girls are now two years old and even though their personalities are beginning to differ they still understand each other completely.

“If one twin is crying, the other will try to find a way to comfort her, like going to find a pacifier or rubbing the other’s back or offering a hug.”

And it seems the girls have already learning to embrace the benefits of having a twin sister even at the tender age of two.

“If Jenna does something bad, I’ll ask her about it and she’ll say, ‘No, Jillian did it!’

“But they look so much alike that sometimes I really can’t tell which one of them is in trouble.”
