Is Galway Ireland's most charming city? Well, according to The New York Times, it may well be.

Now while residents of Galway City would already sing its praises, it’s always nice to get a bit of recognition.

The hugely popular 36 Hours travel series made a visit to the city for their latest installment, opening it with: “Welcoming and walkable and filled to the brim with old-fashioned pubs and excellent seafood restaurants”.

We’re sold already but let’s see what else they thought was special about our City in the West.

For a bit of history they went to the Collegiate Church of St Nicholas, Galway City Museum and the Galway Cathedral and by all accounts they were pretty impressed.

For food, they checked out some popular local spots like Ard Bia, McDonagh’s and if you don’t mind the drive, Moran’s Oyster Cottage.

They also grabbed a few beverages while they were at it.

For that morning coffee they recommended Coffeewerk+Press and Urabn Grind. And for the harder stuff, they managed to fit a pint in at Tigh Neachtain’s, The Salthouse Bar and Roísín Dubh.
