A British mum is appealing for people all over the world to embrace extended breastfeeding.

Sophie Rose – who is originally from the UK but now lives in Thailand – has made a stand by sharing a powerful video on YouTube.

In the footage, Sophie explains her ‘mission’ to normalise breastfeeding, especially with older children.

Sophie - who breastfed her son Shaye, four, throughout the recording - explained: “It’s a very beautiful and intimate thing. It’s also a very ordinary thing when you’re a breastfeeding mum – you get very used to it.”

“My mission is to continue my work in normalising breastfeeding, but also to normalise -specifically - breastfeeding older kids,” she said.

Sophie revealed that she is hoping her campaign will mark an end to the ‘controversy and shock’ that breastfeeding still incites, and encourage other mums to keep nursing their older kids.

Needless to say, Sophie’s video has proved pretty divisive; while some mums are sending her ‘peace and love’, others have challenged her personal choice.

“Once they’re past three years old, there’s no reason to breastfeed anymore. The acquired immunity is sufficiently strong once…and the bond between Mother and Child has been formed much earlier,” replied one viewer.
