The photograph, which was uploaded to Reddit by user Bretstar, is, in fact, an X-ray machine and the baby is undergoing medical tests.
Commenting on the strange picture, Bretstar, who worked in a hospital and had always wondered what the machine was for, wrote: “I worked as a floor guy buffing and scrubbing at a hospital and every time I got to xray and radiology I always saw this machine sitting in the hallway and had to move it. I never once saw the xray tech grab it. I had no idea that is what this was. This pic answers a 3 year old question I never asked. Thanks.[sic]”
The device is called a Pigg-O-Stat and stops babies moving around so that doctors can get a clear X-ray of them.
