Any mother who decides to breastfeed will know that when you are in a public area and want some privacy, an ordinary blanket can complicate the feeding process.

That’s why we are IN LOVE with this new product which collaborates with the National Maternity hospital and makes life much easier for nursing mums.

The Electronic Sheep designers have created a scarf type blanket that supports breastfeeding women.

The producers teamed up with The NMH Foundation (National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin) to ensure the ‘Life Glorious Life’ scarf blanket was covetable and useful to nursing mothers.

They didn’t stop at comfort and practicality, they have gotten creative with their colours and unique styles.

Their illustration portrays lots of women enjoying breastfeeding with their little ones in different outdoor scenarios, such as sitting cafés, in parks or streets, reading and relaxing in public while breastfeeding.

The inspiration behind the depiction came from wanting to create a positive and happy environment for both mother and baby. The hand-drawn scenes are set around Holles Street Hospital and the striking historic building is central to the design.

The name ‘Life Glorious Life’ is taken from the NMH motto and from each blanket sold, 10 percent of the sale will be donated to the NMH Foundation.

For both the designers, Brenda Aherne and Helen Delany, the scarf was not just to aid nursing mums but a reflection of their personal journeys as two young mothers.

The campaign to promote breastfeeding resonates deeply with Helen in particular, she remembers her own initial ‘up and down’ experience as a nursing mum.

The main concern Helen had was being confined to the house while feeding her baby.

However, that all changed after a prenatal course where she was shown images of women fishing, eating and enjoying public spaces while breastfeeding.

She realised that it was perfectly natural to breastfeed and not to be embarrassed about caring for your baby in public.

The other creator, Brenda has a special link to the NMH as her twins Bonnie and Blake were born at Holles Street Hospital in 2011.

The babies arrived prematurely and Brenda recalls how well they all were looked after at the hospital. She is now delighted to give something back by creating these scarves.

The scarf blankets are beautifully made with the most care, knitted in 100% super soft merino wool, the scarves are limited edition and produced ethically in Europe.

They retail at €155 and of course, 10 percent of sales of each blanket scarf is donated to the NMH Foundation.

You can buy the scarves here, or you can purchase it at Atrium in Powerscourt.
