Three cousins in Roscommon will never forget each other's birthday as three sisters give birth on the exact same day.

Mairéad, Bernie and Jolene were all due around the same time but no one expected all three babies to be born on the same day. A fourth sister, Christina, is also waiting to give birth – she was due last Sunday.

“I was the first one to go at 3:25 am and then my sister had her little girl, Sorcha, at 11 am. Then Bernie's boy Phelim was born last night at about half 8,” first-time mum Mairéad explained to RTÉ News at One.

But for two of the cousins it’s not just the same birthday that they share – two midwives who delivered Mairéad’s baby, Thomás Óg, also delivered Bernie’s!

In fact, as Mairéad explains the staff at the hospital were understandably shocked by what the events of the day: “They couldn’t believe it, they thought it was crazy.”

"It was my first, and Jolene's second, Bernie's third, and Christina, this will be her fourth,” the new mum explained, saying the family were hoping that sister number four will give birth today or tomorrow.

"I was due on Friday the 28th of August, Jolene was actually sectioned, she was booked in for a section yesterday, it was her second baby. And Bernie was due today. Christina is still waiting for her little one, she was due on Sunday, 30th August."

What an incredible story - they'll never forget their birthdays that for sure!
