The birth of any child is worthy of a major celebration, but one little baby’s arrival in an Italian town has sparked hope for a brand new generation.

According to reports this week, the people of Ostana, North Italy are celebrating after the birth of the first child in a whopping 28 years.

Ostana, situated in the mountains, has experienced a major population decrease over the past 100 years, with its current figure standing at just 85 people.

Until the birth of sweet little baby Pablo this week, the last baby to be born in Ostana arrived into the world all the way back in the ‘80s.

Speaking to local newspaper La Stampa, Ostana Mayor Giacomo Lombardo explained: “The real decline started in 1975, with 17 babies between 1976 and 1987, when the last boy was born – until little Pablo.”

As you can imagine, the community is preparing to mark Pablo’s arrival into the world in a very special way – a party has reportedly been planned, and a stork carrying a blue bundle has been set up at the entrance to the town.
