Being a mum is exhausting, not to mention expensive – so, when we do finally get the chance to chill out, we want to make the most of our down-time and budget.

When you finally manage to pin the girls down to a date night, what better way to catch up and let your hair down than a pamper night in?

Here are the seven essential steps to the perfect pamper night in with your girlfriends.

1. Make it comfy
Create a haven of relaxation for your ladies. Kit the sitting room out with blankets and cushions, light some candles, and burn a little incense to set the ambiance. Your friends will appreciate the effort and attention to detail.

2. Set the tone
Is there a band or album that reminds you and your girlfriends of an amazing holiday, road trip or concert you enjoyed together? Setting the tone to ‘nostalgia’ will get the crazy memories and hilarious stories flowing, and make your pamper night one to remember.

3. Get the snacks in
This is a guilt-free treat night, so any mention of the words ‘diet’ and ‘calories’ is outlawed. Prepare an array of indulgent treats (warm brownies and ice cream, anyone?) along with some healthy treats (carrot sticks and hummus is a winning combo), so everyone can take their pick. Of course, a few cocktails or a glass of vino won’t go amiss, either!

4. Manicure time!
Who has the time or money to hit up the nail salon for a pricey manicure? Not us, that’s for sure! Your pamper night offers up the perfect opportunity to really treat your fellow mums, by setting up a DIY manicure station. Sally Hansen has a fab range of affordable products that will leave you feeling like a million dollars.

5. Turn on a girly movie
No pamper night in would be complete without a movie and some popcorn. Pick a girly favourite, and settle in for plenty of giggles, gasps and tears. Bridesmaids, Thelma & Louise, and Breakfast At Tiffany’s are just three of our favourites.

6. Apply a homemade face mask
This is prime time to get creative and indulge in a little DIY with the girls. Keep the treat session going by whipping together a face mask. Recreate our favourite by mashing together half an avocado, a teaspoon of plain organic yogurt, and a teaspoon of honey.

7. Choose just the right outfits
No, we’re not talking about little black dresses for everyone! Send a memo out beforehand, telling your friends to wear their comfiest clothing. Pyjamas, onesies and sloppy sweats are to be expected. Why not present them with some fluffy socks as a ‘party favour’, upon arrival?

Enjoy, mums!
