Virtual Easter camps and events to check out this Easter break

This Easter may seem like a write off to many of us and in a lot of ways, it is. Our kids can’t see friends, we can’t meet up with family, there’s nowhere we’re allowed to travel…but all that means is that people have gotten creative with how they celebrate this year!

Covid-19 has made innovators of us all and Easter weekend is no exception. This year plenty of companies and people have made every effort to help us make the most of our Easter, by pulling together virtual events to celebrate the holiday. Check out some below!

Easter Egg Treasure Hunt

Organised by Clashmore and Kinsalebeg Community Council this event will take place Sunday April 4th between 10am-12pm. Come along, collect your sheet, bring the family and follow the clues around the village! Find the letters, solve the word puzzle and win the Easter Eggs in Clashmore GAA club.

It’s €10 entry per family - all kids will get an Easter egg and all the profits will go to East Cork Abilities Special Olympics Fund.

It’s important to register ahead to ensure a place. For more information, Call Jazz on 086 1904593

Cool Food School Easter Cooking Class

Our libraries have been playing a blinder the whole way through this pandemic and Lucan Library is no exception. April 8th between 11am-12pm sees their Cool Food cooing class take place over Zoom.

Why not try some fun interactive baking with your children over the Easter break? Join Deirdre from Cool Food School and make some delicious carrot cake muffins and chocolate bark - a great way to use up any leftover Easter egg chocolate!

The facilitator will email a safeguarding statement and a list of ingredients to participants in advance of the class.

It’s important to note that there is only 1 ticket per device and 1 device per household.

A valid email address is required to register for this event. Your email address will be forwarded to the facilitator who will send you on the Zoom codes for the live workshop.

Online Easter Camp

The Laois Sports partnership have organised a virtual Easter camp from the 6th to the 9th of April.

The Portlaoise Leisure Centre will deliver classes via Zoom for ages 5-12. Get moving this Easter and go join in the fun! With 4 days of online sessions - Tuesday - Friday 11.00 AM - 12.00 PM with Eimear Bryant, they guarantee you will have a blast!

Online sessions are 60 minutes daily. The aim of this programme is to encourage children to keep active during the Easter holidays but also to give them something to look forward to.

Easter Clay Modelling workshop

Another fantastic idea by Lucan Libraries, Tuesday April 6th from 11am-12pm will see this fun workshop taking place. Using Ireland’s only fast drying clay from Irish company Clayotic, make a chick and hatching chick following a step by step pre-recorded tutorial. Learn basic shapes and tips and tricks to perfect your model making skills! Remember Clayotic is an air drying clay so your characters become permanent keepsakes after 24 hours.

Participants will receive materials in the post and a link to a pre-recorded tutorial.

1 ticket per device.

Kinsale Easter Bunny Tour

Kinsale Vintage Car Club has announced the Easter Bunny will be joining them for a spin around the seaside town on Sunday, April 4th. They stress that this is not a meet and greet as the Easter bunny has a very busy schedule, but that if you’re out on your 5km walk around the area, you might just get a glimpse of him!

Organised by Kinsale Chamber, the event has been approved by the local Gardaí but locals are asked to respect the Level 5 rules and not join the parade or congregate to wait for it.

Keep your eyes peeled in the town from 12pm!

Children’s Easter Yoga Camp

From April 6th to 8th, Siobhán Sloane will be running a three day live streamed course for children. Suitable for 7 to 12 years, join in from anywhere in the country. Facilitated by Siobhán Sloane, yoga instructor and environmental educator. Activities will include animal shapes yoga movement, paper boat breathing, mindful drawing and colouring, stories and games and three-days of 1.5hr per day live-streamed via private link.

Child led nature inspired games, stories and activities to help children express their creativity. Age-appropriate yoga, breathing and relaxation to find calm. Siobhán Sloane is a qualified and experienced yoga therapist and environmental education guide. She leads wellness in nature experiences in the west of Ireland.
