Water-themed summer outings with your toddlers

As the weather is generally good at the moment, it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy some water-themed adventures with your little ones. Ireland offers a plethora of toddler-friendly destinations where splashing is all part of the fun.

1. Sandy toes at the seaside:

Ireland has lots of stunning beaches with safe and shallow waters, making them ideal for toddlers. Places like Tramore Beach in County Waterford or Rossnowlagh Beach in County Donegal are perfect for creating sandcastles, paddling in the gentle waves, and enjoying picnics by the shore. Remember to bring sunscreen, beach toys, snacks and drinks and a sense of adventure! And possibly a rain coat too. It is Ireland after all.

2. Lakeside retreats:

For a more tranquil experience, consider heading to one of Ireland's enchanting lakes. Lough Key in County Roscommon offers a variety of family-friendly activities, including boat trips, nature walks, and a fairy-tale-themed playground. Glendalough in County Wicklow, with its picturesque lake, is another fantastic option for you to explore nature with your toddlers, and maybe even spot some ducks waddling along the water's edge.

3. Thrills at water parks:

The Aqua Dome in County Kerry, with its dedicated toddler pool featuring mini-slides and water play areas, guarantees endless fun in a safe environment. Similarly, Waterworld Bundoran in County Donegal offers a toddler pool, ensuring the youngest visitors have a blast while being closely supervised. And if you can’t get to a waterpark – an afternoon at the local swimming pool will thrill your little one no end.

A relaxing riverside outing can be equally enjoyable for toddlers. The River Lee in Cork offers a tranquil atmosphere, where you can enjoy gentle walks, feed the ducks, or have a family picnic. In County Fermanagh, the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark has great riverside trails suitable for little feet, and you might even spot some wildlife along the way!
