The Sam and Sue Safety series provides the perfect resource to help develop safety awareness in young children
These books were developed to provide a much needed resource which aims to develop safety awareness in young children. The books have been written by Educational Child Psychologist, Ann Linehan to ensure that the wording is appropriate and the safety message understood. The books are aimed at children aged between 3 to 7 years old.
The books are beautifully illustrated and through fun and engaging stories a subtle safety message is contained. The books also feature a discussion points and tips section so that parents/guardians and teachers can interact with the children to discuss the story.
The first book in the series is called Sam and Sue Learn About Cybersafety, here the children learn to talk to their parents about any concerns they may have about their online activity. They are also encouraged to play with their family and friends and to enjoy outdoor activities.
The second book in the series is called Sam and Sue Call 112 Grandad’s Medical Emergency, here the children learn how to call for an ambulance and the importance of knowing their eircode.
The third book in the series is called Sam and Sue Learn About Flu and Other Germs, here the children learn about the importance of washing their hands following playtime and before eating. It also focuses on the practice of good hygiene etiquette by discussing coughing and sneezing correctly. This book serves as a useful guide to discuss germs and viruses in general, it does not mention Covid 19 specifically but it does afford the parent/guardian the opportunity to discuss Covid 19 if desired.
The fourth book in the series is called Sam and Sue Learn About Stranger Awareness. This book is still in production, but, will be available for Christmas. Here we see Sam and Sue getting separated from their parents while out shopping. The book highlights the importance of parents talking to their children about what to do if they find themselves in a similar situation.
Eagle eyed viewers spotted the Sam and Sue Call 112 book on the Late Late Toy Show set - which was a huge treat for everyone involved.
In total, the creators of this series estimate that there will be at least sixteen books in the series which will include books on Fire Safety, Road Safety, Water Safety and Farm Safety.
